Our customer asked us to help analyze the feasibility of an innovative dental implant design to evaluate specific risks to the development process. For the business case, we interviewed a prosthodontist, a periodontist, and a general dentist to gather different perspectives on how they use dental implants and to understand the marketplace. From the technical perspective, we evaluated how the system would address every tooth, from the smallest central incisors to the largest molars, and analyzed the design to determine the requisite dimensions for functionality. We then compared those dimensions against potential microfabrication techniques, and worked with a manufacturer to come up with a rough-order-of-magnitude quote to get an idea of the production costs to feed back into the business case.
