Empowering innovation for manufacturers

Root3 Labs is a device engineering & product development consulting firm. We help manufacturers of medical devices or defense technologies design and engineer innovative, market-ready products with a complete manufacturing supply-chain solution. Because many of our customers have demanding timelines, our facility includes an extensive prototyping workshop to allow quick design-prototype-test cycles. From handhelds to hospital equipment, we’re the engineering partner you’ve been looking for.

Whatever you’re building, you need an experienced engineering team that’s great at solving tough problems with creative, practical solutions. Some of our customers have a small engineering team that needs more bandwidth while others do not have in-house R&D expertise. If you can relate, we can help.

How we’re different

Root3 Labs is a registered Professional Engineering firm, and our staff consists primarily of mechanical, electrical, computer / embedded software, and biomedical design engineers. Many of our engineers are cross-disciplinary with graduate degrees and experience complementary to their undergraduate work. We’ve found the best design engineers don’t just live in their computers – they also understand manufacturing & assembly processes. Our space is mostly dedicated to an incredible Prototyping Workshop for our engineers to perform CNC machining and welding to cast molding, woodworking, electronics, sewing, and yes, 3D printing. We didn’t just learn how to use software tools; we’re hands-on, technical engineers with a love of R&D. This gives us the ability to solve what others can’t and make sure the detailed engineering inside your product won’t let your customers down.

A Unique Approach

Our Process for Engineering R&D

Our customers know the value of time when it comes to getting to market. That’s why we’re often trying to get from a blank sheet of paper to a functional prototype quickly. We do that by distilling any project down to the riskiest challenges and tackling those first before refining the design step by step.

But, more than just moving fast, we want to get the best outcome for their customers, too. We use a development process that provides plenty of opportunities to minimize risk quickly and gather stakeholder feedback. We’ll help you navigate the early stages when you need to validate the most important technical and commercial principles to get support from your customers, colleagues, grant committees, investors, etc.

Project Management: Staying on Schedule

We talk to many companies that have been highly focused on their budget while leaving their schedule in the background. Inevitably, when the schedule starts to slip, it ends up taking the budget with it. When I’m planning a project, I’m working toward a milestone or...

Still thinking about it?

Book a call now!

Talk with one of our engineers about your project. We’ll answer any questions about how we can help you solve your technical challenges.

We’ll also have questions for you. We’d love to explore your supporting documentation, concepts, functionality requirements, budgetary expectations and constraints, and deadlines. If the issues are still fuzzy, we’ll just have a conversation to understand your project and what “success” looks like.
